The A-10 Thunderbolt also known as the Warthog, or the Tankbuster makes its maiden appearance at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Sat, March 12. The Warthog was used extensively during Operation Desert Storm, the Kosovo crisis, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Now entering their 50th year these nasty beasts are still “taking names.” Meet the man who was the first A-10 (Warthog) Squadron Commander for the 353rd Tactical Fighter Squadron. The US Air Force is flying an A-10 Warthog Thunderbolt II (aka: the Warthog) from the 47th Fighter Squadron at Davis Monthan flown by Lt Col Tim “Scream” Mitchell. It will land at 10:30 to be on public display until 3 pm. At 1 pm A-10 pilots will present a historical program to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of the A-10. Presenters include Bob Lilac, Buzz Lynch and Lt Col Tim “Scream” Mitchell. Come to the museum for a fun day with the greatest close air support aircraft, its famous gun and a briefing from A-10 pilots.
